montclair kitchen RenovaTion and mudroom addition
Inspired by time spent living in London, England, the current owners expressed their preference for a modern kitchen within a traditional home.
By reorganizing the space, we were able to create a kitchen with two islands—one for cooking and one for dining. We accomplished this by relocating the laundry from the kitchen to the basement. Additional space was captured by including the original mudroom as part of the kitchen area and designing custom doors for the arched opening in the exterior façade.
The previous owners of this home had disregarded the historical style of the house when they added a Plexiglass solarium to the kitchen. Clawson Architects developed exterior designs more consistent with the original style and period of the home.
The existing aluminum and Plexiglas solarium that was used as breakfast area was re-envisioned as a mudroom.
